I have been wanting to review this movie for such a long time because this is one of my favorite childhood movies. But I did not think it would be fair to run on solely childhood nostalgia, so I decided to re watch it. Boy did I love it just as much as I did when I was a kid. Keep in mind that my opinion of this movie might be slightly tainted because I have in fact read the book series so. There is a reason I was able to read the books and that is because they are amazing as well. I instantly fell in love with Emily Browning after seeing her in the opening scene because her personality and looks fits perfectly with how I imagined Violet, while I was reading the novels. The same goes for Klaus. Jim Carrey pulls off Count Olaf amazingly, a dark and sinister man yet comedic when he wants to be. It was just magnificent casting and acting all around. The plot is very unique because the setting is changed around quite a bit making it extremely intriguing and knowing that each new foster parent has their own completely unique homes and personality is very exciting. Wondering how Count Olaf might disguise himself like is very funny to watch and it just makes you wanna shake the foster parents and say "are you fucking stupid". That might be where some people dislike the show because it is a major plot hole, but I found it fun. The creativity involved with every aspect of these movies is astounding. The narrative coming from Jude Law (Lemony Snicket) was a cool little addition. The movie also found a way to make you feel really bad for the kids and make you sad during moments of despair. The only thing that I disliked about the movie is that no sequel was every made because there was only 3 novels covered in this film leaving a lot more untold. I'm very glad that Netflix is creating a spin off series and from what I have seen so far I think the acting is going to be just as good. I loved this movie and I plan on showing my children. |
