Prior to watching this I have seen a total of 4 Quentin Tarantino films (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, the Hateful Eight and Django Unchained). Admittedly I find his films rather overrated due to the fact that they thrive sheerly off jumbled up plots and silly one liners and obscured scenes. I will admit he does this rather well some of the time, but more than not I think his movies could be created by a 10 year old with a Super 8. So I guess you could say I had slightly lowered expectations for this film seeing as I hated Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. I'll save those arguments for those review. Anyway, despite this films duration being 2 hours and roughly 30 minutes, I must say I was very entertained throughout. I think this was in large due to the amazing performances all around and the intense scenes with Hans where you worried for people lives. Because trust me that guy was a scary motherfucker. Christoph Waltz did an unbelievable job once again. As did Brad Pitt and his bastards. The only flaw I found in the cast was the Jewish escapee. I felt her to be much less compelling and rather boring during her scenes. A for the language barrier with 99% of the movie being in languages other than English I was rather disappointed. But I understand why Tarantino did it. Some scenes were very funny I must admit. The Italian speaking scene, the basement talking scene, and the Hitler Ni scene. Each scene with Christoph Waltz were unpredictable and rather intense. This is what made the movie what it was. Unfortunately the movie tended to have scenes which dragged on with unnecessary dialogue. Honestly the scene in the operating room was so stupid, with that dumb music being played in the background. The ending was very good and I'm sure it was well thought through and I give mad respect for that. |
