Casablanca review
My Rating: 4/10
IMDb Rating: 8.6/10 Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 97% Metacritics Rating: N/A My Favorite Quotes: N/A Much to old for my taste. When I say this I mean that I did not find it nearly as entertaining as the people who have given it an unbelievably high score of 8.6 on IMDb. I understand that people rate a film like this so high because of the nostalgia that come along with it. I'm fairly certain everyone who has rated this movie so high is because their long lasting memories of it when they watched it as children, but I would be willing to bet money they haven't watched it since then. Because this movie does not hold up today, this is coming from someone who cherishes a good plot and character development over pointless action. I just wasn't really feeling the black and white, not to mention the pretty one dimensional setting of being almost solely in the saloon in Casablanca. But I did enjoy the acting from Humphrey Bogart as Rick. Other than that and the very good classical soundtrack this movie was very bland. My verdict is that this is a bad movie m, but I was surprised it was only 1 hour and 42 minutes considering most old movies are 3 hours. So I'm glad that was the case. I can't say this movie was original because there are plenty of romantic films prior to 1941. People that rate this so high, please, please, please re watch this movie and leave your prejudice opinions out of it. |
