It was only to get you to that next level, Son. I mean, you's the first Shuttlesworth that's ever gonna make it out of these projects, and I was the one who who put the ball in your hand, Son! I put the ball in your crib!” – Jake Shuttlesworth 2. Jake Shuttlesworth: What are you studying? Mary Shuttlesworth: Cells Jake Shuttles worth: Yeah, me too. Solid basketball film The plot follows a boy by the name of Jesus Shuttlesworth who is the number 1 most sought after high school basketball prospect in the nation. His father has been in prison for 5 years for the murder of his wife and will be in prison for another 10, unless he can convince his son to go to Big State University. Overall it was a good plot that was entertaining the entire film, well at least for a basketball fan. Having Ray Allen, one of the greatest shooting guards to ever play as the leading role (Jesus Shuttlesworth) was very cool. Also, Denzel Washington plays the father. I must say he did a fantastic job of playing a convict. The directors, screenplay writers did a great job of presenting why Jesus has so much resentment for his father. And showed it in multiple flashbacks that really helped to build character backgrounds. There were a few loose ends that were never fully mended such as his Aunt and Uncle or it never showed his sister again after the encounter with her father. I also really wish they had of showed Jesus play in College and/or the NBA. That is just me, and that did not take away from the movie for myself anyway. Another scene that I felt was the most memorable would have to be the scene where Denzel is teaching his son to be a man on the basketball court because just like life, nothing will be handed to you, you have to work hard to succeed. This was the underlining plot of the film. Anyway, My only disappointment was the length, which I felt was far too long and the entire romance with the hooker could have been taken out all together. That would have shorten the movie by at least 20 minutes. A great basketball film and a solid movie. |
