Blade Runner review
My Rating: 6.5/10
IMDb Rating: 8.2/10 Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 100% Metacritics Rating: 89/100 Roger Ebert: 4/4 My Favorite Quotes: 1. “You've done a man's job, sir. I guess you're through, huh?” - Gaff 2. “I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.” – Roy Batty 3. “Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it? That's what it is to be a slave.” – Roy Batty Give me a break Normally I love Sci-Fi movies because they are usually escapist films that allow you to imagine what life could possibly be like without worrying about reality to much. Sorry other Sci-Fi fans, but I really did not enjoy this movie. I’m not sure whether it is a movie you had to watch when it first was released or whether there was just no good movies in the 80’s or what. Literally nothing happens in this movie until roughly three quarters in. Seriously, the first half was just Harrison Ford being introduced and his attempt to find these artificial life forms that are killing people in an attempt to find out how to live longer than the 4 years that they are programmed to. Unfortunately, the emotional romance attempt was a complete and utter failure because the character development was lacking. The main bad guy who’s name slips my memory was actually pretty cool. His hair dew and cocky attitude in the ending fight was something else. From what I gathered the ending makes most sense if Harrison Ford is an Artificial Intelligence as well. The evidence that points to this is that the ending scene the bad guy lets him live. Also the other cop/detective or whatever you want to call them says at the very end that “You’ve done a mans job sir” - Gaff. Also his physical ability to endure numerous amounts of physical damage from three replicants who have superhuman strength, yet he remains almost un damaged. Also his ability to scale the side of a hotel building while injured with two broken fingers. Most importantly, when asked by Rachel if he had ever passed the Voight-Kampff test he gives no response. So in that aspect of the movie it was well put together, but the movie still felt like the Fast and Furious franchise. A ride that you cant get off of. I have no idea how a movie that mediocre could be rated so highly, and this is coming from a Star Wars fan. Hopefully the 2017 sequel or remake is much better. |
