Papillon review
My Rating: 6/10
IMDb Rating: 8/10 Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 82% Metacritics Rating: N/A Roger Ebert: 2/4 My Favorite Quotes 1. “Hey you bastards, I'm still here.” - Papillon 2. “A temptation resisted is a true measure of character.” - Dega 3. “We're something, aren't we? The only animals that shove things up their ass for survival.” - Papillon The Great Escape 2 I must admit although this movie was pretty boring, I still thought it was more entertaining than Iron Man, Fast and Furious, and Wolverine. The first hour of this movie was extremely entertaining and enjoyable to watch. It starts off with a large group of French prisoners who are being shipped off to this prison/labour camp in some foreign country to serve their sentences. You meet Dustin Hoffman who plays this quirky yet rich businessman and Steve Mcqueen who is this strong man who becomes friends with Dustin in order to get money so he can escape. Their friendship slowly becomes more than just a means for escape and security. Their acting is very solid and the whole setting plus the funny activity’s they have to endure are fun to watch. Mainly the butterfly catching scene and alligator wrestling. Unfortunately, the entertainment comes to a very sudden halt as this film changes from a prison film to a two hour escape expedition which leads to injuries, death, and viewer boredom. It became way to repetitive with them trying to escape on boat. Just not my cup of tea. This movie was probably phenomenal back in 1973, but I believe that it is somewhat of an average movie in todays modern movie world. Still I am glad that I watched it. To conclude my review I have to say this movie is not worth watching save your time and watch something else that I have rated an 8 or higher. |
