True Detective season 1 review
My Rating: 8/10
IMDb Rating: 9.2/10 Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 85% Metacritics Rating: 87/100 TV.com Rating: 9.3/10 My Favorite Quotes 1. "F***, I don't want to know anything anymore. This is a world where nothing is solved. Someone once told me, 'Time is a flat circle.' Everything we've ever done or will do, we're gonna do over and over and over again. And that little boy and that little girl, they're gonna be in that room again and again and again forever." - Rust Cohle 2. "I think human consciousness, is a tragic misstep in evolution. We became too self-aware, nature created an aspect of nature separate from itself, we are creatures that should not exist by natural law. We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self; an accretion of sensory, experience and feeling, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody is nobody. Maybe the honorable thing for our species to do is deny our programming, stop reproducing, walk hand in hand into extinction, one last midnight - brothers and sisters opting out of a raw deal." - Rust Cohle 3. "To realize that all your life—you know, all your love, all your hate, all your memory, all your pain—it was all the same thing. It was all the same dream. A dream that you had inside a locked room. A dream about being a person. And like a lot of dreams there's a monster at the end of it." - Rust Cohle After my very first episode the impression it gave off was not entirely addictive or interesting. I was still kind of piecing together the weirness of the whole thing. Soon after beginning the second episode I truly realized how fantastic this show truly is. It needs no fast paced action scenes or random comedy. Just a well put together dialogue that is thought through scene by scene, not just thrown together. Woody Harrelson and Matthew Mccoughnahey have an almost an unconscious chemistry. I also really like the first person narrative of them reflecting on their past cases as detectives. When the show does introduce action it's amazing the stealth and intelligence of Matthew Mccoughnahey is outstanding and the camera angles. Almost every last word, phrase, or quote spouted out of Matthew Mccoughnahey's mouth is pure genius. Everything is so deep it's impossible not to be put in a vex thorough his repeated use of new material. Just when you think they have solved the case it pops right back up leaving the questions of who, what, where, when, and how? What a fantastic show and such true acting by two true detectives. I liked the ending, but only because of their acting. It was much to predictable of an ending. It did not match up to the rest of the show. Still a very good show and I can't wait to see season 2. |
