Southpaw review
My Rating: 5.5/10
IMDb Rating: 7.4/10 Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 61% Metacritics Rating: 57/100 My Favorite Quotes There has been plenty of boxing movies over the years. Which have lacked the inspiration and originality that they need in order to be distinct. This movie has absolutely none of those characteristics desired. Sure, Jake Gyllenhaal was very good and played another character that is different from his usual self. This movie was very similar to the other mediocre boxing movies like Creed, and Warrior. In order for a boxing movie to be great it must have a perfect blend of action and music. Movies which have done this well are Rocky and Never Back Down. This movie had a basic plot of a boxer who's wife gets shot, so he begins to go downhill by taking drugs and obtaining a drinking addiction. So he starts training again and try's to become the best once again. The scenes with major conflict like the shooting scene was extremely tense and well done. On the other hand the daughters cheering and crying was unbearably cringe. Still a solid film, but nothing more. |
