Watchmen Review
My Rating: 7.5/10
IMdB Rating: 7.6/10 Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 65% Metacritic's Rating: 56/100 My Favorite Quotes: 1. "Men get arrested. Dogs get put down." - Rorschach 2. "You see, Doctor, God didn't kill that little girl. Fate didn't butcher her and destiny didn't feed her to those dogs. If God saw what any of us did that night he didn't seem to mind. From then on I knew... God doesn't make the world this way. We do. " - Rorschach 3. " I heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Life seems harsh, and cruel. Says he feels all alone in threatening world. Doctor says: "Treatment is simple. The great clown - Pagliacci - is in town. Go see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. "But doctor..." he says "I am Pagliacci." Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains. " - Rorschach Fuck you superhero fanboys! After hearing a large amount of hype for this films from my friends I decided to give it a chance. I'm glad that I have watched it, but I will never watch it again. This movie differs from a lot of superhero movies in the way that it is presented. And how characters actually have emotional flaws and not just physical ones. After a bit it turns into your typical superhero film. With someone they know and trust attempting to take over earth and kill everybody inhabiting it. That is when the film lost me and my sense of emotion. I have to say though the beginning was very enjoyable with a bit of a first person narrative through Roarshacks journal. Roarshacks character is one of the best superhero I have ever seen. With a dark past and an attitude for justice their Is no flaws with him. He plays the badass that knows how to fight and is slick with words. I enjoyed he films ability to show back story for most of the characters with being able to draw emotions. On the other hand some characters had no told back story and were lame and unenjoyable to watch. Patrick Wilson's character and Malin Akermans character trying to form a romantic bond was just bland and not necessary. Much like some of the scenes in the movie including the building burning down with kid in it. Honestly we could have survived without seeing that 10 minute scene of bullshit. How come we never learn how each superhero has super human strength. Atleast it showed how Mr. Manhattan hot his super abilities. The ending for me was very anti climactic and stupid. Even though I loved Roarshack I felt no emotions after his death because it was so sudden. Overall it was a fun movie to watch, but with the length of the film and the plot holes with me wondering why? Or how? I would have to give Watchmen an 7.5/10 |
